Between Now and Then
OUT NOW on Endless Flight

Juno
Phonica
Rush Hour

Turntable Lab review:

Canadian Eddie C is officially cult now. Now that he's appeared on Japan's Endless Flight imprint, it's just a matter of time before he hits the geeked out level of The Revenge and Mark E. I totally think he deserves the status, maybe on the strength of his soul edits alone. Yeah, the re-dub of Curtis Mayfield's "Give Me Your Love(1)" is so finessed, not one misplaced element or filter. He's also very consistent, check the equally stellar "Between Now and Then(2)" which freaks a female soul sample or "You Know How(3)," a hypnotic dance track that utilizes latin percussion. Recommended.

Phonica review:

EDDIE C is now a must have name in Disco and Disco House. Having previously relesed on top labels such as Flashback, Wolf Music, Jiscomusic and more. His recent 7" edit was sold out before it went on the shelf. Endless Flight sign up the Canadian producer who serves up four tracks that do not dissapoint. Deep dubby, vocal and summery this ticks a whole heap of boxes. This is going to be a big seller.

A Mysterious Mix

I was asked by Bill Brewster if I would be interested in doing the Mystery Mix for his acclaimed djhistory site this month. It was my sincere pleasure to share some of my favorite oddities from the soul of my collection with them!

NEEDWANT 003

Sean Brosnan - Sat Jam

a. Sat Jam (Ray Mang Remix)
b1. Sat Jam (Eddie C Remix)
b2. Sat Jam (original mix)

Here's an early review by wordandsound of the new Needwant. In your local shops soon!

Satjam is the debut production from Sean Brosnan. Needwant was created as an outlet for a sound somewhere between house and disco and ‘Satjam’ seems to stay true to that original ethos. So it seems fitting that the man behind the label should keep the genres so close. Satjam is a dubbed house groove with guitar licks and vocal snippets that are a nod to the by gone disco era. Driving congas keep people shaking while, old school piano stabs provide the extra energy to make this a sure fire dancefloor filler. The A side remix is from long-term super producer Ray Mang. A veteran in the modern disco scene, Raj or Ray as he is known for his productions, was one member of seminal dance act Block 16. Today he is the unofficial third member of The Glimmers and continues his fine Mangled imprint. On Satjam he takes the groove and transforms it into an old school piano house monster. This record never fails to get people running to the decks to ask the name.

On the flip is the turn of new school edit hero Eddie C. The Canadian producer has been winning fans with his edits on Jisco, Flashback and Sleazy Beats over the past 12 months. For one of his first ‘original’ remixes he creates a slow dubby groove that is true heads down material. But after a long teasing groove, in true Eddie C style, the break kicks and reminds us why he is such an in demand producer for 2010. This is the third single release on Needwant recordings. The label releases the compilation series Future Disco and has a raft of singles in store for 2010 including releases and mixes from Kaine, Deep Space Orchestra, Mudd, Massimiliano Pagliara, Mark E and more.

Yele Ayiti

Haiti is once again experiencing some extremely difficult times. I have a number of friends and family living in and outside of Port-au-Prince, where the effects of this Tuesday's earthquake are truly devastating.

Yele Haiti is an organization started by Wyclef Jean in 2005 which builds global awareness helping to transform the country through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment. YĆ©le’s community service programs include food distribution and mobilizing emergency relief.

My wife Brena and I were in Haiti in '06 and witnessed many of these programs in action and they are truly remarkable and inspiring. I recorded a few things while we were there and Brena was working on her final project in Photography school.

If you wish to donate to a relief effort in Haiti, Yele, is one of the best that will get to the people first.

Have a listen to some of my live recordings and interviews in a mini-mix of dub-reggae and a live Hip Hop concert in Port-au-Prince organized by Wyclef to promote the "Lari Pwop" or "Clean Streets Project" of 2006.

To see some photos from the trip please visit Brena's website

Haitians are an overwhelmingly positive people and I wish them only good fortune and prosperity.
