Sleazy Beats Review:

It's been more than a while since we covered a record by our hero Eddie C on these pages, if we were to cover more of his releases on here we'd seriously be writing about him on a weekly basis. As we predicted 2010 has been an impeccable year for the man - he's quickly emerged into one of the most in demand producers, remixers and djs out there; he's been booked at some of the hottest parties worldwide in recent months, constantly on the move to grace the decks at gigs in Detroit, Japan, Germany, France, England, and at the recent Sleazy Beats label parties in Melbourne and Sydney Australia. In short, Eddie's had a pretty damn successful year to say the least, and looks poised to take 2011 by storm as well.

The new one by the crown prince of dirty disco entitled 'The Migration Ep' on Japan's Sound of Speed imprint has finally hit the shops. I've been hitting refresh on my browser daily to see if it's finally in stock ever since it popped up on Juno months ago. The A1 'Migration' is a suspenseful and relentless midtempo cut with heavy slap bass and disco strings, with carefully constructed vocal breakdowns. 'Keepin' On' is a perfect slice of downtempo electronic soul sure to warm your heart with its sublime female vocal about "drifting on your love" that laces Eddie's tight drums and melodies together effortlessly. Flip it over for the uptempo disco-house loveliness of 'Give It To Me'; one to whip out prime time. Finally the moody, breezy keys create a restless and stellar groove in the EP closer, 'Days Like These'.

Juno Review:

Upfront copies of new Eddie C jams on the excellent Japanese label Sound Of Speed! There's always an undeniable class to any track the prolific Canadian producer puts his name to and that standard is definitely maintained on this sumptuous EP. "Migration" demonstrates the C Meister's ease at chopping samples, dicing up a string heavy soul track to fit the bumping mid tempo beat, whilst "Keepin On" is all mellow, closer to a butter hip-hop instro than disco! On the flip, "Give It To Me" jumps to a more familiar tempo marrying a infectious guitar led groove augmented by husky female vocals to a taut beat with plenty of drops into heavy filtered bass. The final moments are dedicated to the Rhodes heavy slo vibes of "Days Like These". Killer 12".

PICS from VIC

My good friend Tristan was the in-house photographer for the 2 nights of dancing and debauchery over Hallowe'en weekend at a loft space in Victoria, BC. Easily one of the best parties I've been to since the 90s. I'm not kidding. DJ's on the nights included Koosh, Dane, St. Christopher, Superbendythumbs, Chris Long, Thom Banks and myself. An all vinyl disco affair. For more great shots from the weekend and more from Mr. Shouldice himself click here!

Francis Inferno Orchestra on UTS

Bit of a late post on this one. I think it came out a week or so ago.
Had a great trip to Australia in November and got to play a few records with Mr. FIO himself at a jam in Melbourne.

Remixes from Soul Clap and yours truly!

Juno Review:

The underground disco network operated by Under The Shade reaches out to Australia to showcase the sounds of Francis Disco Inferno. Fans of the Wolf Music and Dikso imprints might be familiar with the work of the young Melbourne based producer, and the rest of you will probably make a mental note to keep your ears peeled for future FDI missives on the potential shown here. There's an inherent warmth to the rich piano melodies that filter through "Meet me In Salt Lake City" but the sloppy drum hits give the track an unpolished idiosyncratic feel that's all too absent from contemporary disco tinged house. Soul Clap drag the track back towards proto house territory with a stripped to the bone warehouse rhythmic thrust running throughout, dark pulses of bass augmented by reverberant key stabs and subaqueous melodies. In contrast, the flipside remix from Eddie C embellishes all the elements, dipping the track in a swathe of delightfully bubbling delay.
