Piccadilly Review:

More fresh house music sounds from the Home Taping crew, this time featuring new talent - SE62, a new artist straight out of the Ukraine. "Wall Ride" has influences from late 90s deep house; live keyboard licks, funky percussion tracks and a restrained feel to it. The production however is much crisper and more defined than the slurry of bad pressings that plagued deep house in the 90s making this a tasty bit of future-retro house music (you'll notice that the breakdowns and drops are much more contextual to reflect the current dancefloor moods). On the flip "The Tape" chugs along in mechanical funk fashion before searing Rhodes riffs ride over the groove to create a low-slung carnival ass-shaker. Promising stuff from a new producer determined to keep the raw spirit of house music alive but while keeping production aesthetics and ideas up-to-date and now.

More fresh House music sounds from the Home Taping crew, this time featuring two emerging House talents – SE62 and Eddie C (Jisco Music).

SE62 is a new artist straight out of the Ukraine who is exciting many DJs and producers with his heavily atmospheric and raw take on the House sound. The main track ‘Wall Ride’ is a slick slice of Motor City Soul remixed by Canadian producer Eddie C. While on the flip, ‘The Tape’ is a raw, heads down Moodymann inspired affair.

Press play and let the dancefloor do the talking.

Chuck D in Banff

Incredibly, 2 nights ago, here in Banff, population 8000, Public Enemy was billed to play at a 150 capacity venue. It was an invite only party sponsored by a radio station out of Calgary. I knew Chuck D would be the only original member in attendance, but I had to find a way to check this out! Somehow I found my way in and was able to have a few words with Chuck in person and got him to sign my copies of "Terrordome" and "Bassheads". Like most guys my age who listen to music, Public Enemy was an enormous inspiration musically and informatively. Although Run DMC did it for me first, PE, and specifically Bomb Squad production, solidified my addiction to music forever. I've seen PE three times in the last 15 or so years and Chuck still bumrushed that shit believe me. I don't have any pics or recordings of the night here in town but I thought I'd share an incredible video of PE live on Soul Train in 1987 doing Rebel Without a Pause, a tune that still gives me serious goosebumps. I know it's lip-synched but the energy is off the meters, and the interview with Don at the end is pure gold. Enjoy...

Rocket Science EP

Vinyl release - Dec. 2009

early review from Chris Duckenfield (Swag):

They've made a predictably smart move for their debut release by enlisting the services of Canadian Beatdown Disco Don Eddie C.
Eddie’s profile has been on the rise since his magnificent debut record on Jisco Music. Recent releases on Wolf Music, Flashback and Seven Inches of Love cemented the Canadian beatsmith’s reputation for crafting some of the finest mid-tempo disco and electronic funk around.

Sleazy Beats Recordings have managed to snap up some of Eddie C’s finest work to date. From the gloriously deep & dreamy 9-minute Space Cadet to the heavy slo-mo funk of Get Down and finally the disco-fied vocals in One With the Stars. An impressively high quality all-rounder of an EP.
